Understanding Art Commissions: Key Insights for Artists -
Seminar mit Weihua Yi
Beschreibung • Description
Besides acquisition and loan, sometimes artists might receive commission inquiries from art institutions or private clients. It’s an exciting and great opportunity but how shall we propose a reasonable price and guarantee our artworks will be handled in the right manner? What are the different artist rights in commissions compared to other types of artist engagement? This topic might sound remote, but it is essential to any artist who wants to secure sustainable income and maintain an easy relationship with clients in commissions.
The in-person workshop provides structured clarity about art commissions and insights from the commissioner’s perspective, explaining the operational standards, client’s actual interests and artist rights in commissions, such as:
- What are the different types of commercial engagement for artist and their respective artist rights;
- How to frame the rights and responsibilities for you and your client/collaborator in an art commission;
- How to propose an offer and set up a sustainable payment schedule;
- How to negotiate diplomatically and secure the maximal benefits;
- What are the key terms to be reviewed in a commission contract;
- What is necessary for post-production.
Weihua, with over 10 years of experience and expertise in art commissions, will explain those topics in detail within the workshop. It will start with a visual presentation to go through all steps of art commission, including inquiry, project brief, offer and negotiation, execution and post-production. There will be a Q&A session at the end of the workshop, in which the participants can bring questions related to their own specific projects.
However, please note this workshop cannot provide legal advice but advice from the art management perspective. Weihua can also suggest experienced lawyers specializing in the art and creative market if you need legal support for your projects.
