Die „Rumours of Noise“ - als Reihe im Rahmen von Media and Music Talks geplant - widmet sich einem besonderen Aspekt zeitgenössischer Musik: der Arbeit mit Geräuschen, radikalen Soundlandschaften und Drones, die erst im Zuge einer langsamen Erweiterung tradierter Musik- und Kunstbegriffe in das Bewußtsein einer größeren Zahl von interessierten Menschen gelangte. Hier gibt es noch überraschende musikalische Entdeckungen und spannende, sich immer weiter differenzierende Genre-Verzweigungen, oft eingebettet in einen kreativen Kontext, der die Merkmale von Gesamtkunstwerk und weltanschaulicher Utopie aufweist.
Die Medienwerkstatt des kulturwerk des bbk berlin ist der Ort, an dem neue Perspektiven auf altbekannte mediale Genres untersucht und interdisziplinäre Ideen weitergedacht werden können. Hierin laden Frauke Boggasch und Manfred Miersch am 14. April 2026 zu einer neuen Folge ein — die Serie ist eine Veranstaltungsreihe des bildungswerk des bbk berlin.
Thema des fünften Teils unserer Veranstaltungsreihe sind Sounds der „Zukunft“ und der Gegenwart. Hier untersuchen wir, welche Musik genreübergreifend heute als „Neu“ gelten kann und prüfen, ob die mittlerweile musikhistorisch gealterte „Neue Musik“ des 20. Jahrhunderts (sie galt damals als Traditionen-aufbrechende Avantgarde) noch provokativ wirken kann, und damit möglicherweise ein altes neues Vorbild für die internationalen Klang-Dekonstruktivisten und Drone- und Noise-Extremistinnen der Gegenwart und der Zukunft ist (oder sein könnte).

‘Rumours of Noise’ - a series within the framework of Media and Music Talks – is dedicated to a particular aspect of contemporary music: working with noise, radical soundscapes, and drones. This way of working only entered the consciousness of a wider audience during the slow expansion of traditional concepts of music and art. There are still surprising musical discoveries to be made here as well as exciting, increasingly diversified genre branches, often embedded in a creative context that exhibits the characteristics of a Gesamtkunstwerk and ideological utopia.
The media workshop of the kulturwerk des bbk berlin is a place where new perspectives on familiar media genres can be explored and interdisciplinary ideas can be further developed. Frauke Boggasch and Manfred Miersch invite you to a new instalment on April 14, 2026 — the programme is part of a series of events organised by bildungswerk des bbk berlin.
The theme of our fifth event in the series is Sounds of the “Future” and the Present. Here we examine what music across genres can still be considered ‘new’ today and consider whether the now historically aged “Neue Musik” (New Music) of the 20th century (which was considered avant-garde at the time, breaking with tradition) can still have a provocative effect, and thus possibly is (or could be) an old new role model for the international sound deconstructionists and drone and noise extremists of the present and the future.
