Dr. Birgit Szepanski

Studied fine arts at the Kunstakademie Münster, specialising in photography and spatial installation. She graduated in 1999 and master student with Prof. Ulrich Erben. Since then, she has carried out numerous in situ projects on urban space in solo and group exhibitions. She obtained her Master's degree in 2002 at the Berlin University of the Arts in the Institute for Art in Context in the field of art education and exhibition organisation and in 2014 her PhD at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg with the scientific-artistic dissertation "erzählte Stadt" (narrated city).

Since 2008, she has been working as a freelance art journalist and is the author of numerous texts for artists and advisor to artists on exhibition projects. Catalogue texts have been published by Kehrer Verlag, Verlag für Moderne Kunst, Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König and Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt art IT, among others.

She has been working as a docent at bbk bildungswerk since 2015. In the next quarter she will be teaching the seminar “Von der Kunst zum Text
