When you understand your own creative practice, everything falls into place. We are able to trust our intuition, playfully explore our interests, narrow focus where necessary, communicate our intentions to others, and follow up on complex projects. This interactive workshop will teach you how to use brainstorming and mind mapping to enlarge your fields of thought and action. Participants will also learn to ask questions to create clarity about the determining stimulus behind a project idea which will enable you to choose and develop ideas. These practices will help you gain confidence and clarity about your practice and understand obstacles, limitations, or pressure as tools that enhance creativity.

During this session we will analyze other artists’ decision-making processes, engage in (short) individual in-class activities, and exchange ideas in a group discussion. Aufenthaltsstipendien sind in Mode gekommen! Immer mehr Residenz-Angebote rufen zu Bewerbungen auf. Aber welche Residenz macht für die eigene künstlerische Praxis Sinn? Wo findet man geeignete Open-Calls und Förderungen? Und was muss bei der Bewerbung beachtet werden?

Der sechstündige praxisorientierte Workshop vermittelt einen Überblick über Artist-in-Residence Programme, Suchportale, Bewerbungsverfahren und Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten und gibt Hilfestellung für die eigene Bewerbung auf passende AiR-Ausschreibungen.

Im ersten Teil des Workshops werden die unterschiedlichen Formate von Aufenthaltsstipendien, Bewerbungsverfahren, Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten und ihre jeweiligen Vor- und Nachteile erörtert. Es wird eine Auswahl an Open-Call Portalen vorgestellt und besonders nützliche Funktionen einzelner Portale gemeinsam erprobt. Im anschließenden Praxis-Teil werden wir Bewerbungen auf Artist-in-Residence Programme anhand konkreter Fragen und Beispiele der Teilnehmenden besprechen. Wir erarbeiten Entscheidungshilfen für die eigene Auswahl und Bewerbung. Dafür widmen wir uns Fragen wie:

• Welches AiR-Programm ist für meine künstlerische Praxis und Lebensführung geeignet?

In dem Coaching-Jargon, befindest Du Dich im sogenannten „Tal der Tränen“, eine wichtige, notwendige Phase in Wachstum- und Veränderungsprozessen. Die schlechte Nachricht ist: Man muss da wirklich durch. Die gute Nachricht ist: Dieses Tal der Tränen ist irgendwann vorbei! 

In dem Workshop „Coach Dich Selbst!“ geht es darum, die eigenen Ressourcen zu erkennen und zu aktivieren und den eigenen inneren Kompass zu finden, um auch schwierige Phasen zu überwinden. Gemeinsam suchen wir nach Bildern und Werten, die Sinn, Kraft, Durchhaltevermögen und Resilienz stiften und Dir helfen, bei Dir zu bleiben, auch wenn es gerade alles kompliziert und sinnlos scheint. Wir arbeiten mit Coaching-Instrumente, um Selbstzweifel und Selbstboykott zu überwinden, um im Fluss zu sein, und praktizieren gemeinsam die Kunst des Umwandelns von Hindernissen und Kritik ins Treibstoff für Deine Ziele. Ein gutes Portfolio ist unerlässlich für erfolgreiche Bewerbungen. Aber was genau zeichnet es eigentlich aus? Wie findet man im eigenen Portfolio zu einer klaren Darstellung der individuellen künstlerischen Praxis? Wieviel Text, welche Bilder - und muss eigentlich ein Artist Statement rein?

Im 6-stündigen Workshop widmen wir uns intensiv dem Portfolio als dem wesentlichen Format für die Vermittlung der eigenen künstlerischen Arbeit in Bild und Text bei Bewerbungsverfahren. Beispiel-Portfolios schärfen unser Verständnis für klare und knappe Kommunikation sowie eine entsprechende Gestaltung. Anhand eigener, mitgebrachter Beispiele diskutieren wir exemplarisch die Entsprechung von individueller Arbeitsweise und Präsentation im Portfolio. Kommt rüber was wir sagen wollen? Was funktioniert schon gut, was noch nicht, wo liegen unsere Stärken? Ziel ist es, die eigene künstlerische Praxis klar und knapp zu kommunizieren.

The finance plan can be a challenge in project planning, as it raises many questions: How exactly is a finance plan structured? How can ‘typical mistakes’ in budget planning be avoided? What does shortfall funding mean? Together, we will explore the topic using sample finance plans, mainly from the Berlin Senate for Culture and Social Cohesion. We will also practice calculating project budgets using current examples from real life.

Participants are welcome to bring their own examples, which will be discussed in small groups.

This course covers the physical, material, time and conceptual aspects of developing performance art works. Guiding students through a structured process that can be employed in their own studio practice, it addresses and provides processes for ideation, exploration of the body’s gestures, the role of material transformation and meaning and how to approach time as an additional material through Bergsonian theory. Students will engage with new methodology, including exercises on ’situations and systems’, Body-verbs and breaking down existing artwork examples - uncovering structures in order to inspire their own. The course will be supported by artwork examples and material experimentation, offering take-home resources like research mind maps and performance art inspired exercises. Students will also learn about performance preparation and training, risk assessment, and aftercare to ensure their works are rigorously developed and safe.

In diesem Seminar wird über die Möglichkeiten gesprochen, ein Werkverzeichnis anzulegen, dieses für die Gestaltung von Preislisten, Echtheitzertifikation und vor allem auch für den Nachweis, welche Sammler*innen welche Kunst von euch gekauft haben, zu verwenden. Bei der Auswahl von Kunstwerken für eine Ausstellung hilft euch ein Werkverzeichnis genauso wie bei der Planung von Verkäufen und Schenkungen in Institutionen und Museen. Für Nachlassverwalter*innen von Künstler*innen ist ein Werkverzeichnis erforderlich, um einen Ort für das kulturelle Erbe zu finden. Es werden Fördermöglichkeiten und schon vorhandene Computerprogramme vorgestellt, mit deren Hilfe ein strukturierter Überblick über eure Kunst ermöglicht wird. Für den ersten Einstieg kann es sinnvoll sein ein Tabellenprogramm wie Excel oder Numbers oder ein einfaches Datenbanksystem wie Ninox zu verwenden.

If you are an artist or a curator and are planning to organize an exhibition, this workshop will give you an essential guide on how to conceive a successful art show. Indeed curating an exhibition, from conception to launch requires several skills: coordination & management, marketing and communication.

We will analyze topics such as the exhibition concept; artwork statement, exhibition sheet with image credits, artist names, exhibition title, and text; press release; creating a facebook event. We will also look at areas of work such as: how to find a gallery, working as a curator for a gallery, communication between artist and gallerist, and liaison with the gallerist.

In this workshop, I will give you a full-practical-insight into the strategies of curating, drawing on my own experience as an independent curator in contemporary art.

This course explores the rich possibilities of materials in contemporary art and the ways they can carry layered meanings that deepen the resonance of your work. You will learn a process-driven approach to analysing the physicality of materials and branching out into their symbolic, cultural, and conceptual associations. Through exercises with existing artworks, you will build skills that translate directly into your practice. Each participant will create a personal material library: a catalog of specific materials and the narratives they support, helping you clarify the themes you wish to explore and providing strategies to expand them. We will consider how materials can be read through diverse lenses, from folklore, religion, and philosophy to pop culture, literature, science, politics, and technology. The course will also cover ways of articulating your material choices, from the poetic to the academic, balancing what remains private with what is shared. By the end, you will have both a conceptual framework and practical toolkit for using materials as rigorous elements of conceptual meaning.
